Ofelia

Ofelia, by Emma-Sofie Feen, is a piece that combines interview material with the choreographer’s mother, aunt and grandmother, with the story of Ofelia from Shakespare’s Hamlet. The reinterpretation is sweet, nostalgic and honest, viewing Ofelia’s character through modern women’s experiences. There are playful interactions set in various locations in the family’s hometown, intertwined with tense and moving solo-parts that draw on Ofelia and closeness to bodies of water.

The piece has a music-score created by the choreographer’s fiancè August Røse, as part of his music project Unelma, performed live by five musicians. It plays on coming of age nostalgia and his personal artistry, while merging with the lines of the performers.

The premiere is set to be performed in a seaside garden in late summer. Bogen art and culture house is located on the very same beach as the choreographer’s family cottage and lends itself perfectly as a backdrop for the performance.
